Hornshaw and Fowler (see References) provide the extra details. He enlisted in August 1914 and would have served in the Dardanelles (where his brother was killed) were it not for illness. As it was he served in Egypt and then France where he was first reported missing, reported seen as a POW near Peronne and finally declared dead, supposedly having been buried at a farm near Templeux-le-Guerard. He was the younger brother of Leonard who is also listed on this memorial and both brothers are also listed on IWM 2224.
