The memorial appears to have reversed his initials. The following information was supplied by the school in 2024: 'Noted by LHS Dec 1914. Noted in Kington Times May 1915. Son of James Meredith, High Streeet Kington [one of 5 who went to the school and also served, 2 being killed]. Served under name of Douglas. Volunteered 2/9/14, ironmaster's assistant, apprentice in Cardiff from 1911. Served through to 1919. Bombardier in August 1915. Two blots on his service record, both for slight overstays of leave in 1915 and 1916.'
