The memorial has apparently reversed his initials. The following information was supplied by the school in 2024: 'Brother of Frederick James [also listed on this memorial] and Thomas Richard [who also attended the school and served in the Shropshire Yeomanry but who is not listed]. When his mother appeals at Tribunal in 1916, she notes that she has 3 others sons who are serving. b. 1886 in Weobley. In 1901 he was a boarder in Ledbury working as a railway clerk. Residence noted as the Train Station, Kington from 1903 to 1911 when he emigrates to Canada (Ontario). He apparently returns in 1914 to enlist, but failed the medical. May subsequently have been called up? Lieutenant.'
