Notes
He had an elder brother, Cecil Arthur, who attended LHS and served in a variety of regiments (KOYLI, York and Lancaster, MGC) but who is not listed on this ROH. The following information was supplied for Harold by the school in 2024: 'b 1889 in Kington. 1911 census living at home and is a farm assistant (this census also notes that there is another brother, Walter, age 16, "feeble minded from infancy"). Emigrates between 1911 and 1915 when enlists in Australian Imperial Force (27/1/15). Farmer as given occupation. His records are a little confusing, as he appears to have been declared medically unfit in March 1915, but this was disputed by the Medical Board. There is a re-enlistment form from 10/1/17. At this stage, his occupation is given as labourer and living at 180, Pitt Street Sydney. It was noted at this point that he had previously enlisted and been discharged due to his teeth. April 1917, 8th Battalion (D Company, 24th relief) embarks for England. Serves France from 6/11/1917. December 1917 sent back to UK for hospitalisation. Has several periods in hospital -Trench Fever, Trench Foot as well as influenza. Returns to Australia 9/12/18 and was discharged in 1919. He appears to have lived in Australia for the rest of his life.'
