The school website (see References) provides this biography: 'George Edmund Stevenson Salt was born on the 19 February 1873 in Stafford, seventh child of Sir Thomas Salt, 1st Baronet of Standon and Weeping Cross, banker, and Emma Helen Mary Anderdon. He was at Charterhouse [Saunderites] 1886-1891. After leaving school he attended New College Oxford. He joined the 1st Battalion of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers in 1894. He died of typhoid fever while on active service in Ladysmith, South Africa on 3 April 1900.'
