The school website (see References) provides this biography: 'George Fairbairn was born on 22 December 1869, the third child of William Andrew Fairbairn and Helen Birley. He was at Charterhouse [Girdlestoneites] 1882-1886. He joined the 33rd Company of Imperial Yeomanry and was in General Rundle’s Escort 1899-1901. He died on 12 March 1901 of fever while on active service at Harrismith, South Africa, aged 31.'
