The Bristol Grammar School website provides his service and death details and this biographical information: 'Son of Edwin Charles Howell, traveller, and Florence Caroline Howell, of Exeter Lodge, Burlington Road, Redland. Older brother of Edgar Stanley, who also served [and was killed on the same day, most likely in the same action, and is also listed on this memorial]. The family later emigrated to Australia, and lived at 161 Kent Road, New Farm, Queensland.
Howell was born on 07/07/1888, and attended the School from 1898-1903. He served as a Private in the Army, with the Australian Infantry, Australian Imperial Force, 25th Bn.. Howell sadly lost his life on 05/08/1916, as a result of the War.
Howell is buried near his brother in London Cemetery and Extension, Longueval, France, grave reference 6. E. 12.'
