Notes
All additional information and this short biography are supplied thanks to the research of the Blackpool Grammar School Old Boys: 'He was the son of John and Catherine Hayes of Clinton Avenue and went to Revoe School before coming to the Grammar School from 1933 until 1939. He became a Flight Sergeant (No 1507633) and like his contemporary N R Johnston 3 years earlier, he served with No 10 Squadron. By the time he was killed on Monday 20th December 1943, aged 21, they were flying Halifax bombers out of Melbourne, in East Yorkshire, (one of 128 lost from that station during the war – and one of 27 lost that night on a raid on Frankfurt and probably shot down by a night fighter). He left a widow, Catherine B Hayes, and his grave is in the Rheinberg War Cemetery in Germany.'
