Notes
All additional information and this short biography are supplied thanks to the research of the Blackpool Grammar School Old Boys: 'He was at Revoe School, the son of John Woodward of Tyldseley Road, before joining the Grammar School from 1927 until 1934. He went on to Leeds University, joining the RAF and becoming a Flying Officer (No 70833), serving with No 64 and then No 23 Squadron flying an obscure aircraft type called a “Demon” (a forerunner of the ill-fated “Blenheim”) out of RAF Ford in Hampshire, and was killed on Wednesday 30th October 1940, just one day before the end of the Battle of Britain. He lies in Heckmondwike Cemetery, West Yorkshire, Section L, Grave number 51.'
