He is listed on the memorial as having been a scholar at the school. The school website (see References) states: ‘Private Benjamin Shatwell was the son of George and Mary Shatwell, of Garside Street and Birch Street, Ashton-under-Lyne. His Father was a Traveller in Mineral Water. He had a younger brother Ernest, and three sisters Annie, Florence and Miriam, who were all Elementary School Teachers. Benjamin was a Steam Engine Fitter prior to serving with the Manchester Regiment in the Gallipoli Campaign in Turkey where he died on the 13th of August 1915.' He is also listed on the Helles Memorial.
