Notes
Information supplied by Archivist (see References) gives the extra as well as this biographical detail. He was born on 23rd January, 1887, in Bristol, the son of Edward Ernest, and educated at Clifton College. He matriculated at St John's in 1905 and read Law but was also an accomplished cricketer, becoming Cricket Secretary for the College. He was called to the Bar, then become a teacher, but when war broke out he enlisted and, given his teaching ability, became an instructor. By 1918 he requested to go to the front and was in France for only 3 months before he was killed.
