Hove, Sussex; son of William Checkland, Colliery Proprietor, and Amy Beaumont. Subject(s): Law; BA 1907. Tutor(s): C E Graves; J R Tanner. Educ: Newton College; Uppingham School. Career: Called to the Bar, Inner Temple 1912; Lieutenant, West Somerset Yeomanry, attached Somerset Light Infantry 1914-1917. Died 17 August 1917 (killed in action at Langemarck).'
