Arthur William Stevens was born in 1910 in the parish of Whitchurch Canonicorum,
Dorset. His father was John Ernest Stevens (1866 – 1931)and his mother Margaret Jane
(nee Larcombe) 1871 – 1957. In the 1911 Census his father John was Assistant Overseer
and Egg and Poultry Dealer and their address was Little Manscombe, Morcombelake,
Dorset. John and Margaret had four sons and one daughter. It is sad to learn that they lost
two sons in the Second World War and had previously lost their son Raymond Ernest who
had died in 1934 aged 36 years.
Arthur William Stevens married Nancy Vera Stevens and they resided at The Retreat,
North Chideock. Arthur William was a Sergeant and Instructor in the RAF at No.9 School
of Technical Training at Morecombe. It is unclear how Arthur died but was in the service
of King and Country. He is buried in Chideock Cemetery and commemorated on the
Chideock War Memorial.
Arthur William Stevens is on the Roll of Honour of The Old Haltonian Association,
