Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. He was married, to Annie, and worked as a storeman at an ironworks before the war. He served in France where he survived being surrounded for 48 hours in Trones Wood, but died of heatstroke in Mesopotamia, He is not commemorated on any other Calderdale memorial.
