Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. Originally from Darwen, he worked for the Air Ministry Met Office after leaving school but also qualified as a pilot. He was lost flying with 251 Squadron in a meteorological aircraft flying from Iceland. He is also commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial and iWM 29367.
