Notes
Although listed under the heading of "civilian" casualties on the memorial, this person is also described as a Corporal in the Royal Dutch Army. Further research indicates that he was in fact a Dutch Army Military Policeman who was assigned as a bodyguard to Queen Wilhelmina of The Netherlands while she was in exile in the UK during WW2. On the night of 20th February 1944, Corporal Kievits was killed during an air raid when the house in South Mimms in which the Queen was staying was bombed; the Queen was unharmed. Corporal Kievits and another colleague who subsequently died of injuries received were both decorated for bravery as a result, and the Queen and Prince Consort personally attended their funerals.
