The Roll mistakenly listed this man twice: once under this incorrectly spelt surname 'Norton', and again (on the previous page) under his true surname 'Morton'; both entries list him with the same unit, regimental number, date of death and address (156 Westwood Street). Although both entries therefore clearly relate to the same man, the fact that he was listed on the Roll twice (under differently spelt surnames) means that we need a Names record for each.
(N.B. The Roll is known to include numerous errors, including: misspelt names and inaccurate date/place of death, service number/ rank/ military unit etc; several casualties were mistakenly listed on it twice [i.e. under their true name and also the alias under which they served]; several other men were listed on it due to the mistaken belief they had died, whereas they had actually survived).
