According to Angus and Rosemary's Miscellany of Malvern (see References): 'De Ruvigny's Roll of Honour records: Sims, John, Naval Cadet, Royal Navy, HMS Bulwark, eldest son of Charles Sims of Lodsworth, Petworth, ARA, by his wife Agnes Helen, daughter of the late John MacWhirter RA; born Hammersmith, London, 17th October 1898; educated The Wells House, Malvern Wells; entered the Navy Sept 1911; appointed to HMS Bulwark 16th August 1914, and was lost when the ship blew up off Sheerness 26th November 1914. This was possibly due to a flaw in the ship's design.'
