Married, to Constance Carrie, with a daughter he had been an agent for the Prudential as well as a motor engineer before volunteering in 1940, initially working as a civilian instructor in Morecambe. Commissioned into the Indian Army Ordnance Corps, he died of heart failure: the press gave his age as 35, the family grave says 34.
