Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. A rugby player, he enlisted aged 19 and, after the Boer War, worked as a weaver. He married Christiana and they had 3 children: in WW1 he served again with the Fusiliers in the Dardanelles and then the Royal Engineers, being killed in France in March 1918 (the exact date was reported as the 8th and 29th). He is buried in Couin New Cemetery.
