The extra details are provided by Wilsden Parish Council (see references). Willie was born in 1899 and enlisted almost as soon as he was 18 ion October 1917, crossing to France. He was wounded in his knee the following September but he (and his brother Greenwood, who won the Military medal and is also commemorated on this memorial) survived the war.
