The memorial records him as a War Reserve officer. (On 6/6/1941 the Nottingham Journal reported the air raid that had recently taken place on Nottingham, mentioning that Police War Reserve William Alexander had been killed while on duty in Shakespeare Street. The Findagrave website records his date of death as 9/5/1941, and that he is buried in Section F20, Grave 11 at Southern Cemetery and Crematorium in West Bridgford, Rushcliffe Borough, Nottinghamshire).
