Indian Revolutionaries Bhagat Singh and Shivram Rajguru killed John Saunders, Assistant Superintendent of Police. To avenge the death of Lala Lajpat Rai, Singh and his associates plotted the assassination of James Scott, the Superintendent of Police who had ordered the lathi-charge that fatally injured Rai. The revolutionaries killed Saunders instead, mistaking him for Scott.Superintendent of Police, as he was leaving the District Police Headquarters in Lahore on 17 December 1928.
