Born at Leyland, Lancashire, on 27 January 1895, the 2nd son of the Revd J. Edward Peel, a Wesleyan Minister from Newbury, he was educated at Kingswood School, Bath and Bradford Grammar School before winning a Scholarship to Corpus. However, he took no Oxford University exams as he enlisted on 14 August 1915 and was killed 2 years later. )
