Notes
He was recorded on the Roll of Honour as former Constable 84D.
The Roll of Honour lists him as having served in The Sherwood Foresters, but CWGC lists no WW2 casualty of that name in that Regiment. As his widow placed a notice in the Liverpool Echo on 21/8/1944, thanking his colleagues in D Division for their sympathy re her recent loss, it appears he may therefore in fact have been the Lieutenant William George Johnston, 299406, who CWGC lists as having died on 14/7/1944 serving in the Green Howards.
