Notes
Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra detail. Married, to Edith, with 1 child, he was a conductor for the local Corporation before enlisting in 1940. His VC was awarded posthumously for his actions when his men were cut off by the Japanese: he went forward, alone, with grenades six times. There is an individual memorial to him in Halifax Town Hall.
