Notes
He briefly enrolled at Worcester College, Oxford in 1914 but, as the college archive says, 'Gerald Hodgkinson matriculated in 1914, but left the College in March 1915 when he received his commission. He served first in France, where he was wounded, and then accepted a position in the King’s African Rifles, intending to return to Oxford to complete his studies once his required period of service was over. Lieutenant Gerald Hodgkinson was killed in action at Mtua [now in Tanzania] on 17 October 1917.'
