Notes
He is also named on the Galashiels War Memorial in Selkirkshire (IWM 56992) According to the Southern Reporter (13 July 1916 page 5 & 5 October 1916 page 5), 'James Manderston – age 21 – Private (S/13939) 7th Battalion, Cameron Highlanders. Known to his family as Hamish, he was educated at Pitlochry High School before the family moved to his father's home-town of Galashiels. He was employed in Comelybank Mill in Galashiels when he enlisted and he landed with his battalion at Boulogne in July 1915 but he was killed two months later during the battle at Loos. Born 1894 in Moulin, Pitlochry, Perthshire. Son of James and Jessie (McLaren) Manderston of Magdala Terrace, Galashiels who married in 1893 in Moulin.
Missing in Action on 25 September 1915 and named on the Loos Memorial, France.' The family seems to have been in Moulin until just before the war (his father James is named on the 1913 electoral register in 1913) but Hamish does not seem to be named on any civic memorial in Perthshire.
