There is a possibility that the unit stated on the memorial is a transcription error. According to the CWGC website, there is an "M. Baird" buried at the Kilbirnie Burial Ground, with a wife also then resident in Kilbirnie. However, he is recorded by CWGC as having served with 2nd Dragoons (Royal Scots Greys), rather than 2nd Dragoon Guards (Queen's Bays) or "2.D.G." as "Matthew Baird" is listed as serving with on the Kilbirnie Memorial itself.
