Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. He was married to Florence, they had a daughter and he worked in the Halifax branch of the Yorkshire Penny Bank, before becoming a bank inspector in Leeds, all before he enlisted in January 1917. He was commissioned in the October and earned the MC when he was the only surviving officer during an engagement at Gourgencourt. He is also commemorated on IWM 2689.
