Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. He had moved to Sunderland, was engaged to a Miss Scorer there and was working as a piano maker, before he enlisted in September 1914. He was the brother of Martin who is also commemorated on this memorial and both brothers are also commemorated on IWM 2689. James is also on the Menin Gate.
