Notes
Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. He was the son of a Doctor and JP who had been educated at Heath School (he was a member of the Old Boys' Amateur Theatrical and Sports Clubs) in Halifax and then at Christ's Hospital. He had also been an apprentice at an electrical engineering company. He did two tours of duty in South Africa looking after many enteric cases at Burghersdorp in the Cape Colony and died of the disease himself on his way home. He is also commemorated on IWM 2599.
