Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. He had been a regular in 1891-98, serving in the Chitral expedition, Gibraltar, Burma and Ireland. He was working in a dyeworks before he was called up as a Reservist in December 1899. He was killed in a night attack on a kopje and is also commemorated on IWM 2599 and 2839.
