Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. The son of the Assistant Verger at Halifax Parish Church, he played football for a team in Elland and worked in a lemonade factory in Ovenden before he was called up in December 1899 as he was a reservist. He died of remittent fever and is also commemorated on IWM 2599.
