The choir and scoutmaster of this church, a member of the Halifax Operatic Society and an amateur rugby league player, he was a Merchant Navy officer, survived aboard the last ship to leave Narvik in 1940 and was lost on HMS Homeside. He is also commemorated on the Tower Hill Memorial.
