Notes
This original version of the Roll included an entry for 'Nurse Cavell', about whom it recorded no further details other than the comment that she had been "Brutally murdered by Germans". (Strangely, the 1994 version of the Roll of Honour omitted any mention of her).

Edith Cavell was a former resident of Peterborough; before the war, she had been a student-teacher at Laurel Court School in The Minster Precincts. There is an impressive memorial to her in Peterborough Cathedral, and the City's former 'Edith Cavell Hospital' at Bretton Gate was named in her honour.
