(CWGC records that Private Joshua Prentice, regimental number 3120, died aged 23 on 25/3/1917 serving in the 2nd Battalion East Surrey Regiment, and is now buried in grave VIII.C.3 of Struma Military Cemetery in Greece, having been reinterred after the War. They record him as the son of Mrs C Prentice of Hall Lane, Werrington, Peterborough. Although CWGC record him as "Joshua", his birth was registered in 1894 in Peterborough District as "Josh Prentice", which was therefore his legal name. On the 1901 census he was mistakenly recorded by the enumerator as "Joseph", aged 7, living with his parents Caroline and Robert in Hall Lane, Werrington. On the 1911 census he was recorded as "Joshua" aged 17, living with his parents in Hall Lane, Werrington, which was given as his place of birth. Soldiers Died in the Great War records that "Josh Prentice" was a native of Peterborough. The Army Registers of Soldiers' Effects record him as Josh Prentice, that he died on 23/5/1917, and that his mother Caroline and his siblings were his legatees. The Medal Rolls re his 1915 Star medal record him as "Josh Prentice", noting that he went to France on 23/2/1915 and died of wounds on 25/3/1917; the Medal Rolls re his British and Victory medals record him as "Joshua Prentice").
