He enrolled at Worcester College, Oxford in 1903 and the college archive adds: 'Ernest Maufe was educated at Bradford Grammar School and entered Worcester College in 1903. He enlisted in the Royal Fusiliers in May 1916 and was transferred to the Royal West Kent Regiment and sent to France in August that year. Private Ernest Maufe was killed in action at Le Sars on 6 October 1916 during the Battle of the Somme.'
