Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra detail and state he was married and worked as a quarryman before the war in which he died serving on HMS Perugia, a Q ship. Both they and CWGC list him as a Stoker: he is listed here, on IWM 2747 and on the Plymouth Naval Memorial.
