Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. He had been a merchant seaman in Buenos Aires at the outbreak of war and enlisted in July 1915. He died in the explosion that destroyed the Vanguard at Scapa Flow, is not commemorated on any other Calderdale memorial but is named on the Plymouth Memorial.
