Belper News Friday 6/2/1920 reported:
'CHRIST CHURCH WAR MEMORIAL.— On Sunday a special service was held in connection with the unveiling and dedication of a window erected to the memory of soldiers of Christ Church, Belper, who have fallen in the Great War. The unveiling ceremony was performed by G. Herbert Strutt, who, on drawing aside the Union Jack that covered the memorial, recited the words “To the Glory of God and in undying memory of soldiers of Christ Church who have given their lives for and their country, I unveil this window in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.” The window was then dedicated by the Vicar, the Rev. C. A. Baldwin, and special prayers were offered for the departed, whose names were read out. The address was founded on the text “That ye may tell them that come after.” Explaining the meaning of the window, the Vicar concluded by expressing the hope that the noble service and valour and self-sacrifice shown by the fallen heroes in the days of war might now be abundantly shown by those who had survived by striving to make this country a better and happier land, and that they might able to build upon ‘the ruins of civilization that had broken down a new temple of righteousness and peace. The window depicts St. George in knightly armour. At the foot of the memorial are the words "To the glory of God and in the memory of comrades of Christ Church who have fallen in the Great War 1914-19.” At a later date the names are to be fixed on a marble tablet. The cost has been about £100.'
