Memorial Details
What type of memorial is it?
Window
How would you describe the memorial and its ornamentation?
A four-light stained glass window made by a family member, commemorating various members of the Gamon family, but probably initially paid for as a commemoration of Captain Gamon.
His dedication is inscribed under depictions of St David and St Chad in the centre lights, beneath the badges of the Cheshire Regiment and the Royal Flying Corps. Other family members are commemorated under depictions of St Matthias and St Perpetua in the outer lights.
In the 1920s the 34 windows around the Cathedral Cloisters were glazed in stained glass with images depicting the Church’s Calendar. Of the 130 lights about a quarter are WW1 Memorials.
